Thailand blocks You Tube over mocking video
You Tube is banned again but this time in Thailand. On late Saturday You Tube lover in Thailand found the site redirecting to the site of MICT, the government agency responsible for Internet censorship in Thailand. The reasons and criteria for blocking are usually not made public. But some users could still gain access at one point by excluding the ‘www.’ It should be noted that The Thai government has a long history of censorship. This is attributed to a culture of authoritarianism and king-worship predating the 1932 transition to parliamentary democracy.Thailand blocks You Tube over mocking video

After the bloodless coup on 19 September, Army officers took over the country’s ousting Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The military junta that replaced controversial Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra earlier this week has revoked all laws in the country, has issued severe restriction on media and imposing self-censorship. Now in Thailand media are required to report only ‘positive‘ and favorable news and to refrain from reporting information that could disturb the ‘peace of the nation‘. All the news that portrays Thaksin or his allies in a positive light, or criticizing the junta now is illegal.

According to Surasant Kongsiri, the Military junta’s assistant spokesman

‘At this stage we are receiving very good cooperation from all. Please write positively.'’

On September 19, the military leaders interrupted television and radio broadcasts for several hours, and there were reports of soldiers ‘guarding’ newsrooms.

The King of Thailand is a great man. A great king. He earned the respect from the people, he spent decades upon decades helping people. If the blocking of this ’pure evil’ (my own opinion) was to be considered a block of freedom of speech, then perhaps it should be considered that when it comes to this sort of material, no Thai would use their rights for freedom of speech, nor will WE tolerate such DIRT thrown to our faces. The King of Thailand, no matter how much you hate him, has done no wrong, no evil, and shall not be held accountable for any acts of what many may call a ”DICTATORSHIP”. If so, then at least it is one that the people accept, love, and has a benefit from it all.
